Setting up
The Translate button says a model is not installed
Translation runs on your iPhone using Apple's own language models, and those are downloaded by iOS rather than by this app. The first time you translate from a language, iOS should offer to install it.
If that prompt never appears, or it fails, install the pack yourself:
- Open the iPhone Settings app
- Go to Apps › Translate › Downloaded Languages
- Download both the language the comic is written in and the one you want to read
Come back to Manhwa Translation and translate again. Nothing needs restarting.
Does it work without internet?
Translating does. Once a language pack is installed, recognition and translation both run offline. You will still need a connection to load the comic page itself.
Translating
“No readable text found on this screen”
The app reads what is visible on screen, not the whole page. If a bubble is only half scrolled into view, or the page is still loading its images, there may be nothing to recognise yet. Wait for the artwork to appear, scroll so the bubbles are fully visible, and try again.
Very stylised lettering, handwriting and sound effects drawn into the artwork are often not recognised at all. That is a limit of text recognition, not a fault in your copy of the app.
The translation is wrong
Tap the bubble. You will see the original text and the translation, and you can edit it.
- Save Only fixes that one bubble, right now.
- Save & Remember also stores the correction. The next time the same line appears — the next chapter, next week — your wording is used instead of the model's.
For a name or a term that keeps coming out wrong, open the page menu and choose Translation Memory, then add it under Terminology. It is applied to every translation in that story from then on.
Do corrections carry between different comics?
No, and on purpose. Everything you teach the app is filed under the story you were reading, so a name you fixed in one comic does not overwrite a different character with the same name in another.
Nothing changed when I translated the same page again
A page you have already translated is served from a cache, which is why re-reading costs no tokens. If you have just saved a correction and want to see it applied, translate the page again — the correction is layered over the cached text, so it will appear.
Tokens
What is a token?
One token is one translated speech bubble. A page with twelve bubbles costs twelve tokens. A page served from the cache costs nothing.
How many do I get?
| Plan | Tokens each day | Ads |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1,000 | A short rewarded video every 50 translations |
| Niio Premium | 50,000 | None |
The daily allowance refills at midnight, your time. It does not roll over.
I ran out
Free readers wait until tomorrow, or subscribe. Premium readers can buy a pack of 50,000 tokens, which never expires — purchased tokens sit underneath the daily ones and are only spent once the day's allowance is gone.
Purchases
I subscribed, but the app still says Free
Open the Premium screen and tap Restore Purchases. If that does not do it, close the app fully and reopen it — the App Store sometimes takes a moment to confirm a new subscription. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with.
I bought a token pack and cannot see it
Token packs are tied to your account rather than to one iPhone, so you need to be signed in with Apple for them to appear. Sign in from Settings, and the balance will follow you to any device using the same account.
How do I cancel Premium?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. In the app, open Settings, tap your plan at the top of the Tokens section to open the Premium screen, then tap Manage Subscription. You can also go to the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the period you have paid for ends.
Refunds
All purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves, but do write to us if something went wrong — we would rather fix it.
Your account and your data
Do I need an account?
No. You can read and translate without ever signing in. An account is only needed to buy Premium or token packs, and to carry a balance between devices.
Deleting your account
Open Settings › Delete Account. Your account, your Premium status and any tokens you bought are permanently deleted. Your reading history and story memory stay on the iPhone — clear those from Settings, or delete the app.
Clearing what the app has learned
Settings has separate controls for the translation cache and for story memory, so you can clear one without losing the other.
Privacy
The pages you read and the translations of them never leave your iPhone. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Reporting a problem
If something is broken, the most useful report tells us: what you were doing, what you expected, what happened instead, and the address of the page you were on. Screenshots help more than descriptions.
About this app
Manhwa Translation is a reader and a translator. It does not host, supply or distribute comics, and it has no library of its own — you bring the page, it translates what is on your screen.
